A life is like the passing of a day By Clyde M. Thornton A life is like the passing of a day When first the sun peeps through the morning haze Tis then that life gets started on its way And till the sun has set we live and learn life's many ways. By early morn we've reached our youth And playing occupies our time Until school beckons us to come And learn to read and write and spell and rhyme. At noon the sun has reached its peak Life then is in its golden stage Tis then that a man a wife doth seek And in pleasure and business doth engage. By afternoon the sun has travelled far And life consists of dreaming by the fire The faces of old friends who long ago have crossed the bar Flash into view and memories of deeds both good and dire. At dusk the sun and life have reached their ends The sun to set and rise again in early morn But life is done and when the sun again ascends A new babe is born and life begins once more. News Clyde suffered cerebral hemorhages, but no paralysis on/about March 4th ... hospitalized March 5th ... he seemed to be improving but developed double pneumonia. Clyde had passed away while sleeping. ... Margie and Judy gave Rev. Newland the enclosed poem which they had found among Clyde's papers. The brother and sisters and friends were impressed as they were not aware that Clyde had written poetry. SOURCE: Excerpts from OKT letter to TLT, 4 Apr 1990
