Testimony
Quite rail-thin and a wit in his old age, he would eat peanut brittle
and smoke small cigars. He always kept a double-barrel shotgun
in the living room. At family meals, he said humorous prayers, like,
"Good bread, good meat, Good Lord, let's eat." and,
"I know that I was born to die, prepare me lord to go.
I'll spread my wings away I'll fly, just like a goddamned crow."
At such meals, he many times recounted the same story of a
family dinner, where his brother/cousin passed him a gravy boat,
letting go before Grandpa Zoschke had hold, and "There was gravy
everywhere."
